NUMBER OF DIVORCES:
Divorce is a dissolution of marriage, is the termination of a marriage or marital union, the canceling and/or reorganizing of the legal duties and responsibilities of marriage, thus dissolving the bonds of matrimony between a married couple under the rule of law of the particular country.
According to the article 152 of the Colombian Civil Code, civil marriage is dissolved by the actual or alleged death of one of the spouses or by divorce judicially decreed.
We can appreciate that unlike the decrease in the number of marriages, the divorces in Colombia have increased over the years.
The graphs of the recent report from the Superintendent of Notaries and Registry indicates that the region with the highest rate of divorce is the Central region, then Andina region, followed by the Pacífico region, then Caribe region and lastly Orinoquia region where the least amount of divorces are made.
The principal causes for the divorce in Colombia are: mistreatment, infidelity, incurable illness, alcoholism and immoral acts.
